Wolf Creek Generating Station
3 miles southeast of New Strawn. Wolf Creek, the only nuclear plant in the state, generates electricity by heating water to produce steam in this massive, domed structure. Steam turns turbines that spin a magnet inside an electrical generator, thus producing electricity. No gas, oil, or coal is burned as a heat source. With the property tax the plant pays to the county, it was possible to fund a new library and fire department in each incorporated city in the county.
