Tuttle Creek Lake and State Park

From U.S. 24 (north of Manhattan), 1¾ mile east on K-13 across the dam, then 1 mile south (circling back north) on River Pond Rd. to the state park. Congress first recommended the construction of the lake in 1938 as a flood control measure. This need was debated for years, but the great floods of 1951 sealed its approval. Construction started in 1952 and operation began 10 years later. Tuttle is the state’s second largest reservoir and offers 100 miles of rugged, wooded shoreline. The park contains the usual recreational opportunities including excellent hiking, biking, and equestrian trails. State park entrance charge. Cabins available, reservations required.
