Monument to Lake Scott Scenic Back Road

Countless chalk formations, abandoned stone structures, and High Plains vegetation highlight this compelling 36-mile, one-way route. Ready? Here we go. From the west side of Monument, go 15 miles south on unpaved 350 to the Smoky Valley Ranch trailhead. Continue 5 miles south on 350, 2 1/2 miles east on Indian, then stairstep 3 miles south and east on 380. To the north is the dramatic Little Jerusalem formation. Continue 7 miles south and east on 390 (becomes N. Kansas). At the fork just north of Lake Scott go either way around the lake to K-95, which will connect you to U.S. 83, 30 miles south of Oakley.
