Beersheba
This first Jewish agricultural colony in Kansas was established in present Finney County in 1882 by about 60 Jewish immigrants from Russia, sponsored by the Hebrew Union Agricultural Society. Farming efforts were not successful so many established businesses in Ravanna and Eminence. A historical marker at a rest area just west of K-23 and K-156 recalls the colony's short-lived existence. From Campus in Garden City, 23 miles west on E. Kansas (becomes K-156). Click here to read about a fascinating member of the Jewish colony.
