Chestnut Street Historic District
1200 Main (Downtown Visitors Center). From Vine, 3/4 mile west on 13th, then south on Main into historic downtown Hays. A century ago the commercial and social life in Hays centered on Chestnut Street (now Main) where residents gathered to meet friends and shop. The soul of Hays has been restored, and you can feel the energy in the renovated buildings, new businesses (such as a microbrewery and trendy restaurants), and works of art. (NRHP)
