U.S. 159 and E. 1st. In 2012 when the city razed the old water tower, resident Jeff Hanson thought that the tower’s round top, which resembled a baseball, could serve as a memorial to Joe Tinker. With Jeff’s leadership and stellar out-of-town and community volunteers, the water tank became a 20-foot diameter baseball. Red-painted rebar served as stitching. The largest baseball site includes metal cutouts representing the famed double play trio, Joe Tinker, Johnny Evers, and Frank Chance, on a miniature infield. Complete your experience by stepping inside the large steel ball and singing, “Take Me Out to the Ball Game."
