Wild Dala Horses
In Sweden, 18th-century lumberjacks carved small Dala horses in their off hours at their logging camps. When they returned home, they passed them out to village children. During the 19th century it became customary to paint these wooden horses. Fast forward to the Wild Dala Horses of the Swedish town of Lindsborg. They're amazingly colorful, they're fun, and they're all over town—more than thirty of these four-foot-tall painted, wooden horses adorn the street corners of downtown. Cleverly designed and created by local artists, the horses have names like Hello, Dala!; Fala the Dala Brick Road; and Dalallama Telecomma. Pick up a brochure at the Travel Information Center (118 N. Main) or the Convention and Visitors Bureau (104 E. Lincoln) so you can fala the Dala tour around town. The map can also be downloaded via the link in the left hand column.
