Amelia Earhart Birthplace Museum
223 N. Terrace. Amelia was born in the home of her grandparents, Judge Alfred and Amelia Otis, and spent much time here during her first 12 years. The frame house, built about 1860, has been well restored, and excellent photographs and interpretive signage help you get to know the daring and record-setting aviatrix. Amelia Earhart and her navigator Fred Noonan disappeared in the Electra on July 2, 1937, during their attempted flight around the world. A model Electra hangs inside the museum. Tuesday-Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; Sunday 12-4 p.m. Admission charge. (8 Wonders of Kansas - People)
