Ozro Falls
From Hewins, 1 block south on 8, 2 blocks west on Adams, 1¼ miles west on Dalton, 1 mile north and west on Eagle, then ½ mile north on 6th (no road sign). It’s a bit of challenge to find this picturesque low-water bridge crossing the Caney River, and don’t try to cross if the roads aren’t dry. Stop at the big curve that leads down to the falls to survey the area before proceeding in your vehicle. The falls are only about a three-foot drop but they extend from bank to bank across the river. The crossing is on the shallow limestone flat just above the falls, and is one of the prettiest scenes on Kansas back roads. Before pioneers settled here, this idyllic spot on Caney River was a campground for American Indians when they traveled the Black Dog Trail. Pioneers crossed here in covered wagons, and after settlement, the falls were a favorite picnic spot. The falls were named for a nearby town, now long gone.
