Victory Highway

The Victory Highway movement began in 1921 to commemorate WWI veterans. A bronze sculpture of an eagle on a nest with her eaglets was chosen as the highway symbol. In 1925 the U.S. highway system began its numbering system, and Victory Highway and parts of other roads became U.S. 40. A stone Victory Highway marker with a bronze plaque and eagle sculpture stand at 4th and Ash.
