St. Patrick's Catholic Church

From Walnut, 5 miles west and north on K-31. A predominantly Irish parish completed this church, also known as Emerald Church, in 1899. After a fire in the 1930s it was reconstructed, and in the 1940s famous crooner Bing Crosby donated the Sacred Heart of Jesus statue that stands on a side altar. The church bell tower was removed in the 1990s due to water damage. But even without it, the red-brick Italian Renaissance structure looks majestic on its hilltop location. Because of the church's remote location, the doors are kept locked, but you can visit the nearby cemetery or enjoy a short walkabout and a beautiful view of the countryside.
