Samuel Tipton House

From W. 4th in Garnett, ½ mile north on Maple (U.S. 59), 11¾ miles west and north on K-31, 3 miles west on 4 (becomes 2000), then ½ mile north on NW Barton. Built on what was known as Mineral Point, one of the highest points in the county, the house was sometimes called Mineral Point Mansion. This three-story sandstone structure was built circa 1857 for Samuel Tipton, credited with introducing Shorthorn cattle to Kansas. The home’s lower floor was used as a post office, general store, and stagecoach stop. Drive by only. (NRHP)
