Old Jefferson Town
701 Walnut. Stroll through this preserved little village of yesterday. The showpiece is the 1900 boyhood home of artist John Steuart Curry, which contains an original Curry painting, family photos, his paintbrushes, copies of books that he illustrated, and more. Old Jefferson Town also comprises a chapel, bandstand, blacksmith shop, an 1875 bowstring truss bridge (NRHP), a sculpture of Samuel Peppard’s famous wind wagon, plus other vintage structures. Museum and grounds open May-September, Saturday 9 a.m.-1 p.m.; Sunday 1-4 p.m. Research library open year-round, Saturday 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Also open by appointment.
