Marion County Park and Lake

From 3rd, 2 miles east on U.S. 256, then 1¾ miles south on Upland. From 1936 to 1939 Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp workers built this lake, the stone bridge railings, stone arched bridge, picnic tables, and stone outbuildings. A bronze statue commemorates the 300 black WWI veterans who composed the CCC camp. Drive or bike around to the south side of the lake where a large sign announces that a Guinness world record was set here in March 2012 when 1,272 marshmallows were roasted simultaneously! (NRHP)
