Rock Garden

Steve and Jane Fry uncovered and renovated a "secret" garden, an overgrown and neglected spot once the pride of former owner Maude Frakes. The 1930s garden is filled with intriguing grassroots art including concrete and stone benches, gazebo, pergola, tipi, and other unusual shapes and designs created with stones Maude collected from across the country. During the Great Depression Maude hired out-of-work locals to help build her garden. Maude hosted a rally for Alf Landon in 1936, which gives you a clue as to the symbolism of the garden's eight concrete elephants.
