U.S. Air Force T-33 Trainer Jet
A U.S. Air Force T-33 trainer jet rests in City Park at 3rd and Maple. The plane had been on display in Independence for many years but had deteriorated over time and become the target of vandals. In the late 1990s Moline residents donated money to move the jet to their town, restore it, and place it in its new home. A fence now protects the aircraft. The first T-33 jet made its first flight in 1948; production ended in 1959.
