Louis Vieux Cemetery
From Oregon Trail Nature Park, 5¾ miles west on Oregon Trail Rd. The cemetery’s namesake was a Potawatomi leader who operated a nearby ferry over Vermillion Creek as well as a blacksmith shop and other enterprises that assisted travelers on the Oregon Trail. Lying several hundred yards east of the creek, the historic burial ground holds the graves of Vieux and some of his family members. Vandals desecrated 24 of the 30 stones in this cemetery, but they were caught, paid restitution, and were supervised in reconstructing the stones.
