Indian Monument
From I-70 exit 299, 4 miles south and west on J Hill, then just southeast on Skiddy. Stay on the alert to see the Indian statue standing on a pasture hilltop on the east side of the road. In 1920 landowner Robert Henderson asked artist D.C. Smith to create this concrete statue, which memorializes Coronado’s legendary visit through the area and honors the Quivira Indians who inhabited this land. Over the years it has deteriorated due to weather and vandalism, but it is still a reminder of this region’s rich history.
