Elwood Historical Markers
203 Roseport (U.S. 36). A Kansas Historical Marker relates that in 1856 Elwood (first called Roseport) prospered with steamboat and ferryboat trade. But floods are part of this community’s story, and eventually the river washed away much of the old town. Near the marker an inscribed Glacial Hills granite stone serves as a monument to the Pony Express.
