Cheyenne Valley Cemetery
From U.S. 36, south ½ mile on K-27. Sergeant Jack Weinstein was bestowed the Medal of Honor posthumously in 2014 when President Obama presented the award to Weinstein’s widow, Nancy. Although he had received the Distinguished Service Cross for courageous action during the Korean War, he was one of 24 who had not been awarded the Medal of Honor because of prejudice against Jewish and Hispanic soldiers. Weinstein, who died in 2006, is buried here. His story is told at the Cheyenne County Museum. Also of interest in this cemetery are the four bronze miniature military statues donated by Fred Magley’s family to honor him and all Cheyenne County military veterans. Fred, who posted the red-disk historical markers throughout the county, also made the one in this cemetery to mark the grave of baby Grant Barnhouse who died in 1910.
