Glacial Hills Scenic Byway Atchison County

Running from the Kansas-Nebraska line to the K-7 and K-92 junction in Leavenworth, this 63-mile route takes you through the beautiful and rolling Glacial Hills region. You'll often see bluffs along one side of the road and the river or cropland in the flood plain bordering the other. A glacial deposit left the large red rocks (quartzite). Towns along this byway are some of the oldest in Kansas, and the architecture and historic sites are evidence of our state's early days. You'll also learn about major historic events including the Lewis and Clark Expedition and the Pony Express.
