Trading Post Museum

From U.S. 69, 600 feet east on K-52, then 1 mile southwest on Valley. Established in 1825 by French traders, Trading Post is one of the oldest existing settlements in Kansas. At the museum an 1827 map designates this site as “establishment de Chouteau,” the name of a family operating this American Fur Company post and licensed to sell kettles, blankets, and other items to the Potawatomi and the Miami tribes during the 1830s and 1840s. April-October, Wednesday-Saturday 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Open by appointment November-March.
