Teterville Scenic Back Road
It’s a beautiful and unobstructed drive through the Flint Hills to find the remnants of Teterville. From Hamilton, stairstep 6¼ miles west and south on 4, stairstep 8½ miles west and north on 1 (becomes 7), north 3¼ miles on River, then 1 mile west on Teterhill. Look for the remains as you turn south into the pasture to go to Teter Rock. Built during the 1920s oil boom, Teterville once boasted a population of more than 600, along with two general stores, a school, a post office, and shotgun houses for oil workers and their families. By the 1960s everyone and nearly everything was gone. Today only a few foundations and an old oil-heating tank remain.
