St. Benedict's Abbey
1020 N. 2nd. From Main, ¾ mile north on 2nd. Benedictine monks established this abbey in the late 1850s, and about 32 monks reside here today. Barry Byrne, a student of Frank Lloyd Wright, completed the present abbey church in 1957. A brochure in the lobby explains this structure, the organ, choir stalls, the fresco, and the crypt. Monks gather here four times a day for common prayer. Monday-Saturday 5:30 a.m.-8 p.m.; Sunday 6 a.m.-8 p.m.
