St. Jacob's Well
From U.S. 283 Big Basin entrance, 1 1/2 miles east on a service road to the parking area. The Little Basin is about 280 yards in diameter and 35 feet from rim to floor. Within the Little Basin is a small funnel-shaped pond (84 feet in diameter) that has attracted visitors dating to prehistoric times. The pond, named in more recent years for a biblical reference to Jacob's well, has never been known to go dry. A primitive path leads down to the serene spring-fed pool, which is surrounded by trees and rocks. Legend has it that the well has no bottom, but others say it is 58 feet deep.
