Hewins Park Pavilion

Cedar Vale, KS

Hewins Park Pavilion

Since 1913 generations of Chautauqua County residents have attended events in this extraordinary structure. Inside, you can't help but exclaim over the impressive wood-frame gable and six radial arched wooden beams supporting the 40-foot-high roof. The pavilion is open on three sides allowing crosswinds to keep people cool during summer events. On the semicircular stage many bands have played over the years on hot summer nights while dancers waltzed, jitterbugged, discoed, two-stepped, and generally rocked across the concrete floor. Hewing Park, donated by local rancher, Ed Hewing in 1882, is known for its large cedar trees, what one might expect in Cedar Vale.
