George Washington Carver
From Hamilton, 900 feet west on K-96. At this point a historical marker summarizes the life of scientist George Washington Carver, who once lived near Beeler. While in Beeler, he purportedly told a neighbor that he felt something was under the ground in this area, but he wasn’t sure what it was. He left the area in circa 1888, and in 1929 the first oil well was drilled a few miles south of Beeler. (8 Wonders of Kansas - People)
