Swiss Mennonite Memorial
From Christian, 4 miles west on Cole (becomes Arrowhead), ½ mile north on 18, then ¼ mile east on Aztec. Although the 1882 Hopefield Church is the oldest Mennonite church building in continuous use in Kansas, it’s the memorial that is the most impressive. The globe atop the white stone monument is intriguing, and the many plaques describe the Swiss Mennonite migration from Russia, the Anabaptist history, and list the names of original immigrant families. A second memorial marker stands at 18 and Arrowhead in front of the pines.
