Stone Fences

Gene Merry, Kansas Explorer #54, says his granddad told him that wherever you see a stone (layered) fence, there's been a bad boy. Coffey County has a lot of stone fences! The reason may be the number of bad boys, but more likely it's due to an 1867 state law that provided a bounty of five cents a rod to those building stone or hedge fences.
