Robinson Park
4 W. 6th. Make a stop at this little park named for Charles Robinson, the first governor of Kansas, to see the tall red Glacial Hills boulder known as Founder’s Rock. The Kanza tribe considered this rock sacred and not to be moved from where it came to rest at the junction of Shunganunga Creek and the Kansas River near Tecumseh. Regardless, some thought it should be relocated to the state capitol lawn, but a group from Lawrence moved it to its present location in 1929. A large plaque on the rock honors the pioneers of Kansas and the 1854 founders of Lawrence.
