Lake Wabaunsee

Wabaunsee County, KS

Lake Wabaunsee

From Eskridge, 4¼ miles west on K-99/K-4. Just to the south, see a picturesque lake that has quite a history. It was completed in 1939 in a joint effort with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and the WPA. The CCC also built structures for its housing, which later was used as barracks for troop training here during WWII. In 1942 the area became a POW camp. None of the camp buildings remain. Two lovely 1938 WPA stone triple-arch bridges (NRHP) can be seen on your drive around the lake.
