Hodgeman County St. Mary's Catholic Church

From Main in Hanston, 7½ miles south on Highway (becomes 228), 4 miles east on H, then 2 miles south on 232. Irish born settlers erected this native limestone Gothic Revival church in 1904, but a devastating fire in 1928 left only the stone walls. The church was rebuilt with the original walls intact and rededicated that same year (1928). It ceased serving as a church in 1997, and today it is almost startling to come across this lonely Gothic structure in the rural High Plains. (NRHP)
