East High School Statues
Detailed statues of a trapper and American Indian stand atop the natural rock fountain at East High School, 2301 E. Douglas. The sculpture is a memorial to J. Hudson McKnight (1861-1925), an alfalfa farmer who once owned the land where the school now stands. East High School, completed in 1923, was the city's first high school. A massive red brick building, its striking Collegiate Gothic style and vast campus in the center of Wichita make it an urban landmark.
