Tauy Jones House

3801 Nebraska. From K-68, 2¼ north on N. Main (Old U.S. 59), 3 miles east on Sand Creek, 1½ north on Nevada Terrace, then ¾ mile southwest on Nebraska. Jones’ 1860s two-story stone house sits back off the unpaved road. Drive by only. Jones’ first dwelling, an overnight stop for travelers between Lawrence and Fort Scott, was burned in 1856 by proslavery forces. The stone for the extant house was hauled by oxen from Fort Scott. An abandoned 1895 Warren truss bridge (NRHP) is 100 feet south of the house on Tauy Creek. (NRHP)
