Sumner Academy of Arts and Science

1610 N. 8th. This art deco beauty was constructed as a PWA project in 1939 to replace the 1905 Sumner County High School. That high school had the distinction of being the only school in Kansas history legislated to serve black students. In 1978 the name and intent of the school changed to serve all races. (NRHP)
