Strawberry Hill

Kansas City, KS

Strawberry Hill

Between Orville and Armstrong and N. 4th and N. 7th. The heart of Strawberry Hill is home to Croatian, Slovenian, and mixed ethnic immigrant descendants. Around the turn of the century immigrants from eastern Europe’s oldest cultures moved to this area to work in the Kansas City stockyards. This very charming little neighborhood, named for the wild strawberries that once grew here, is characterized by narrow streets and alleys and quaint houses perched among its hills. Numerous signs with strawberry designs welcome you to this well-known ethnic community. Sadly, in 1957 construction of I-70 destroyed one-third of the neighborhood.
