Sandsage Bison Range and Wildlife Area Tour
From Fulton, 1¼ miles south on Main (U.S. 83). Here you’ll board a Suburban or an openair tram to travel through the sandsage prairie to the oldest publicly owned bison herd in Kansas. On your way to find these big, shaggy beasts you’ll view such wildflowers as western spotted bee balm, gaillardia, daisy fleabane, prickly pear cactus, larkspur, and shortgrass prairie vegetation. You might also meet up with a variety of wildlife including magpies, burrowing owls, black tailed jack rabbits, and prairie dogs. Tours are available from March to October. Volunteers with Friends of the Sandsage Bison Range take reservations by phone Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. It is suggested to make reservations several days in advance.
