Martin and Osa Johnson Safari Museum

Between 1917 and 1936 explorers and naturalists Martin and Osa Johnson (Osa was a Chanute native) traveled to the exotic realms of Africa, Borneo, and the South Seas recording their adventures in documentary films, photographs, and writings. A video of their fascinating lives and diverse achievements introduces you to your safari through this excellent museum with three impressive exhibit galleries. A featured exhibit is the replica of the Johnsons’ zebra-striped plane Osa’s Ark! On the grounds, the Frank Jensen metal sculptures Sentinels of the Savannah feature two life-sized giraffes, standing tall and overlooking their Kansas home. Tuesday-Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p m. General Admission free through February 2025. (8 Wonders of Kansas - People)
