Lickskillet School
125 and Stanley. From 157 (U.S. 56), 4 miles north on Maple (becomes Shawnee Heights), then 1 mile east on 125. Rural schools in this area were known by nicknames: Lickskillet, Apple Pie, Pancake, Spunky Point, and Brown Jug. Local lore ties this school’s moniker to a dog who licked a skillet clean. The school, now the meeting place for the Busy Bee Hobby Club, was built circa 1905.
