Last of the Carnegies
Designed by Kansas architect George P. Washburn, the 1921 Canton Township Carnegie Library is the last Carnegie library built in Kansas. A unique element on the building is the book return slot—a miniature door (complete with a doorknob) under the windows at the entrance. Open the door and return your book! It’s not clear whether the book return was part of the original design, but we’re sure you’ve never seen one like it before. Monday, Wednesday, Friday 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m.; Tuesday, Thursday 4-7 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m.-1 p.m. (NRHP)
