Great Bend Lustron Homes
You gotta love the Lustron! And Great Bend has been designated the Lustron Home Capital of Kansas. Eighteen Lustrons, prefabricated, all-steel homes popularized after WWII, were built by local company Brack Implements. You can see these compact, efficient houses on Broadway at W. 3410, E. 1444, and E. 1416; on Coolidge at 1307, 1310, and 1406; and on Harding at 1317, 1410, 1411, and 1417. The Abel home (NRHP), 2601 Paseo, and the Nagel house (NRHP), 1411 Wilson, are both deluxe two-bedroom models. Visit the Barton County Historical Museum to view a fully furnished Lustron.
