Kansas City, KS

Argentine

The town had its beginning in 1880 when many workers for the Santa Fe railway and for a silver smelting and refining company moved into this neighborhood. In 1901 the silver company closed, and the devastating floods of 1903 and 1904 hit the town very hard. By 1910 Argentine consolidated and became part of Kansas City. The name Argentine derives from the Latin word for silver.
