Pittsburg State University is the only college in the nation to have a gorilla as its mascot. A 1965 bronze Gus Gorilla, designed by Larry Wooster, stands on the south side of the Overman Student Center, 302 E. Cleveland. A new life-sized, one-ton bronze gorilla created by Tom Corbin was installed on the east side of Carnie Smith Stadium, 1705 S. Joplin.
