C.W. Parker Carousel Museum

320 S. Esplanade. C.W. Parker was once the world’s largest producer of amusement rides and carousels, and his largest factory was in Leavenworth. The museum showcases three carousels: the oldest operating Flying Horse carousel (1850-1865) in the world; a 1950 Paul Parker (C.W.’s son) aluminum carousel; and the feature, a C.W. Parker 1913 carousel (8 Wonders of Kansas - Customs). It is not only a beauty to behold with its 24 horses, three ponies, a rabbit, chariot, and a lover’s cup, but you can ride on it! A 1920 band organ plays carousel music as you go round and round. Saturday-Sunday 1-5 p.m. Closed January. No museum admission charge, but charge for tour or carousel ride.
