Buffalo Soldier Memorial

18th and Buffalo Soldier. A nine-foot bronze statue of a buffalo soldier and his horse is dedicated to the Ninth and Tenth Cavalry regiments, black units that held the epithet “buffalo soldiers.” Plaques in the courtyard tell their intriguing story. The nearby houses, designated for buffalo soldiers in the 1940s, are the last remaining quarters built for these soldiers and their families during segregation.
