An 8 Wonder of Kansas!

Boot Hill Museum

Dodge City, KS

Boot Hill Museum

Feel the spirit of the Wild West!—the lawmen, gunfighters, cattle trails, and cowboys that made Dodge City famous. The main museum is a reconstructed 1870s western town, including a re-created Boot Hill cemetery. A boardwalk runs along Front Street, where you’ll find a general store, the famous Long Branch Saloon, a collection of more than 200 guns, and exhibits and audiovisual programs that depict life in the 19th century. The Boot Hill building houses exhibits about American Indians, the American bison and buffalo hunters, cattle drives and cowboys, ranching, homesteading, and Hollywood’s impact on the area, including a pleasing and nostalgic display about the beloved Gunsmoke television series. In the summer you might come across a gunfight reenactment, a variety show at the saloon (additional charge), or the opportunity for a chuck wagon dinner. Memorial Day-Labor Day, daily 8 a.m.- 8 p.m.; remaining months, Monday-Saturday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday 1-5 p.m. Admission charge.
