Anderson Memorial Library
Not only is this the second oldest Carnegie library in Kansas, it is also one of the most unique. Its symmetrical domed limestone design with temple-front motif renders it a “temple of knowledge.” Dedicated in 1902 on the former College of Emporia campus, the library features a bronze plaque paying tribute to John Anderson. Anderson, president of the board of trustees of the College of Emporia, established the library in 1888. Andrew Carnegie built this building in 1899 as a memorial to Anderson, who’d had an early influence on Carnegie’s life. The building has been restored and is privately owned. (NRHP)
