Shoe Tree

From Kansas, 1 mile west on K-9, 5¼ miles north on W, then 1 mile west on 80. In the 1980s John Kissel read a magazine article about a shoe tree that inspired him to start one too! Although John has passed away, son Jerry takes care of the tree and monitors the notebook of shoe donors. By now the cottonwood at 80 and V is decorated with many a shoe and has been the site of many a tradition—including a marriage proposal. Although the tree has been diminished by weather, its fame has grown. A can of nails and a hammer beside the tree invite you to add your shoe to the mix.
