Scenic Butcher Falls

From Chautauqua, ¾ mile west on Main (becomes U.S. 166 Business), 1¼ miles northwest on K-99, then 3 miles west on Kansas. Park just off the road, go through the gate (clearly marked Butcher Falls; make sure you close the gate behind you), and follow the path about 250 feet to a natural stone-walled pool. If Pool Creek is running (depends on rainfall) you’ll see water descending 14 feet from a ravine and gloriously splashing into the pool. The falls were named for Preston Butcher who acquired the property in 1889.
