Ravanna Ruins Scenic Back Road
From Campus in Garden City, 23 miles east on K-156 to the granite marker, 7 miles north on K-23, then 4 1/2 miles east on Lake. From a distance, the vertical stone ruins of the Ravanna school look like a mini Monument Rocks rising on the plains. In the 1880s Ravanna and Eminence, two thriving towns, each vied to become the county seat of Garfield County. Alas, the official survey showed that the county boundaries did not meet the required square miles for organization. The area was annexed to Sequoyah County (which was renamed Finney County) in 1893, and the towns died. On this route you will see expansive horizons and vistas and pass by mixed-grass prairie, huge cropland areas, and undulating terrain.
